2011 Recap

2011 was marked by a loss to the BK Wiffleball Tournament family, as Brian's former baseball coach and long-time Kane family friend, Paul Wilson passed away.  You may have known him as the grill man on the day of the tourney, he has been one of our most ardent volunteers and he loved Brian dearly. We miss Paul and we miss the smiles and laughs he created at the tourney every year.  The 2011 tournament was dedicated to him as it always seemed that he and Brian were kindred spirits.

For the 12 years that we have been doing this, the Bisceglia family has performed the national anthem in EVERY tournament.  This is typically our favorite moment of the day as it allows us all to think of those that we love and remember Brian.  We saw competitive action all morning through the round-robin divisions.  The afternoon single elimination playoffs weeded down the field to two teams known on the circuit, Doom and Sheriff's Daughter.  With the drizzle and the top-notch pitching, hits were difficult to come-by.  In the 3rd inning, Doom was able to manufacture a run by stringing together a single, a walk, and a double.  Sheriff's Daughter threatened in the last inning, but Doom was able to close it out and win with a 1-0 victory.

Raffles and silent auctions went on throughout the day along with music provided by the trio of Jeff Casale, David Boisse, and Mike Flynn.  A barbeque went on throughout the day with Jay Savoie taking over the spatula, and in Paul Wilson's spirit, a new special was added to the menu this year, the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich.  We look forward to next year!

The 2013 Brian Kane Memorial Scholarship Tournament will be held on June 8, 2013  beginning at 9AM at the Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School.  Sign-up now!
